Abstract

Faceted one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures have some peculiar properties over circular-cross-section ones, therefore their preparation have attracted much attention over the past decades. In this contribution, wurtzite AlN nanorods with rhombic and triangular cross-sections were obtained on bare Si substrate through the nitridation of Al powder in ammonia/nitrogen atmosphere. The formation of the faceted AlN nanostuctures was briefly discussed. The novel AlN nanostructures obtained are of significance for further enriching the 1D AlN systems.
