Abstract
Rapidly solidified Al–7 wt.% Si–x wt.% Ti, x = 0.6, 1 and 2, ribbons were prepared by melt spinning technique as deduced by X-ray diffraction and SEM. The solid solubility was extended to high value. A decrease in the Al lattice constant of 34 ⁎ 10− 5 and 39 ⁎ 10− 5 nm is deduced from the Al (311) line shift for samples of x = 1 and 2, in addition to the presence of preferred orientation. Corresponding lines of TiAl3 phase are observed only for 2% Ti. Microhardness, electrical resistivity and microstructure exhibit strongly Ti content dependence.
