Abstract
Mechanically-induced luminescence (ML) of spherical europium-doped strontium aluminate (SAOE) particles embedded in transparent polymer matrices was investigated. Sub-micrometer sized SAOE particles with different europium concentrations were synthesized by the spray pyrolysis process. ML intensities were significantly different with the kind of the polymer matrices. The difference was explained based on the optical and adhesion properties of the polymer matrices. Photoluminescence (PL) and ML responses showed similar dependence on europium concentration.
