Abstract
This study examines the tensile properties in directionally solidified (DS-route) Al–Si alloys and in conventionally die casting (DC-route) of the same composition. An attempt has been made to correlate the results with the fracture and microstructure of the alloys. One of the most important findings in this work is that a marked improvement in ductility is observed for DS samples over their DC-processed counterparts.
