Abstract
Using the combination of thermal simulation test and statistical method, the effects of microstructure variation on dynamic compressive deformation behavior were investigated with a Ti–3Al–5Mo–5V alloy systemically, under the strain rate of 16.67 s− 1 at room temperature. The microstructure characteristics, such as the length, width and the aspect ratio (length/width) of α platelet, changes regularly with the increase of temperature or holding time. The aspect ratio and the size of α platelet affect the width of deformed shear band forming during the dynamic compressive deformation. Micro defects could be found when the width of deformed shear band decreases to a certain extent.
