Abstract
CdS nanocrystals of different sizes were synthesized as self standing stable clusters using DMF as solvent and 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxy silane as capping agent. Sizes of the nanocrystals were tuned by increasing the concentration of capping agent. TEM results indicated varying the capping agent concentration could produce stable CdS nanocrystals with the mean size varying between 4.5 and 2.8 nm. Growth of nanocrystals prepared with different amounts of capping concentrations was monitored over a period of time using optical and photoluminescence techniques. Surface modification effects are found to influence luminescence emission.
