Abstract
New chalcohalide glasses from the GeS2-In2S3-KCl pseudo-ternary system have been prepared by the classical melt-quenching technique and its glass-forming region has been determined to our best knowledge for the first time. Following the addition of KCl, a distinct drop occurs about the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the water-resistance of these chalcohalide glasses. The composition having the optimum glass-forming ability is 0.7GeS2-0.15In2S3-0.15KCl. The electric absorption edge of these chalcohalide glasses has distinct blue shift with the increased amount of KCl. These new chalcohalide glasses have potential applications in photoelectric field such as optical fiber lasers and all-optical switch devices.
