Abstract
The aging behavior at 200 °C and damping characteristic of Mg–Al–Si alloy were investigated by microstructure observation, microhardness and damping measurements. The addition of Si reduces the ratio of discontinuous precipitates. Strain-independent damping is improved after T6 treatment and strain-dependent damping decreases with aging time. The onset of increasing strain amplitude shifts the damping curve to bigger amplitudes.
