Abstract

•Micropatterned prussian blue thin films were prepared on ITO surface.•Electrostatic field-assisted potentiostatic deposition method is used.•Coloring and bleaching response times are shortened.•Improvements in apparent coloration efficiencies are achieved.

Micropatterned prussian blue thin films on indium tin oxide conducting glass were prepared by electrostatic field-assisted potentiostatic deposition and their electrochromic properties were investigated in this study. Scanning electron microscope and optical microscope images confirmed the formation of micropatterned prussian blue thin films. Cyclic voltammetry, double-potential-step experiments and UV–Vis absorbance spectra were performed to evaluate the electrochromic performance of the thin films. It is found that the coloration efficiency and the coloring/bleaching response times of the mPB thin films were faster than that of the PB thin films without micropatterns.
