Abstract

In this paper ZrTiN coating and binary TiN,ZrN coatings were deposited on TC4 Titanium alloy substrate by arc ion plating technique. The goal of this investigation is to study the influence of ZrTiN coating content on the damping performance of TC4 Titanium alloy board. The phases of ZrTiN coating were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The surface morphology and chemical composition of the ZrTiN coating were analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), respectively. The Vickers hardness was measured by a digital microhardness tester. The damping performance of the samples was measured by hammering activation according to half power bandwidth method. The loss factor or damping ratio of samples was obtained according to frequency response curve. The results showed that damping performance of TC4 alloy board was considerably improved by ZrTiN coatings.
