Abstract
⺠Deposition of nanocrystalline TiN coatings by pulsing the nitrogen flow rate. ⺠Nearly two fold increase in toughness of TiN coatings was achieved without the addition of second element. ⺠Encouraging combinations of high toughness and moderate hardness were obtained.
