Abstract
⺠We examine high speed laser cladding of AISI 431 stainless steel. ⺠High speed cladding can extremely refine the structure of the coatings. ⺠Structural refinement lowers the Ms temperature of AISI 431 coatings. ⺠More austenite is retained in coatings deposited at higher cladding speeds. ⺠High speed laser cladding does not improve the performance of AISI 431 coatings.
