Abstract

In this study, the FePtxPd1 − x (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) (Fe–Pt–Pd) alloy films were prepared by sputtering. The effects of Pt addition content and heat treatment on the microstructure and magnetic properties of polycrystalline Fe–Pt–Pd films are reported. The experimental results show that the ordering temperature of the Fe–Pt–Pd films in this study is lower than that of the Fe–Pt–Pd alloy. After heat treatment at 600 °C for 30 min, the FePt0.75Pd0.25 film shows a coercive force of 7.18 kOe and a magnetization of 980 emu/cc. The magnetic properties of the Fe–Pt–Pd films can be adjusted by varying the Pt content in the films. From the observation of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the improvement of the magnetic properties of the FePt0.75Pd0.25 films is believed due to the magnetic coupling effect between the order and disorder phases.
