Abstract
For thermal sprayed coatings, dense packing of their constituent particles is essential in many applications, e.g. to obtain impermeable anticorrosion coatings for marine use. In this paper, we investigated the key factors for improving the packing density of deposited particles in HVOF sprayed copper coatings by measuring the condition of spray particles. The results revealed that plastic deformability of the sprayed particles as well as their molten fraction was important to obtain dense HVOF coatings.
