Abstract

This paper describes an effective approach to surface modification of a flexible polyimide film using a reactive fluorinated polymer nanosheet. N-(1H,1H-pentadecafluorooctyl)methacrylamide copolymers containing carboxyl group as a reactive moiety form stable monolayer on the water surface and highly ordered reactive polymer nanosheets can be fabricated by the Langmuir–Blodgett technique. This reactive fluorinated polymer nanosheet was utilized to modify the surface properties of polyimide film through its immobilization using thermal treatment. The modification process was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and modified PI surface was characterized by contact angle measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
