Abstract

The studies of the magnetic properties of different kinds of systems in which interactions between two magnetic films are realized directly or via nonmagnetic spacer are of the great interest in connection with their potential usefulness in modern nanotechnological devices. We discuss the experimental results in the frame of theoretical calculations performed within the effective field theory. The theoretical description is based on the Valenta model of thin films extended to the reaction field approximation which includes the short-range order. The magnetization profiles and the calculated Curie temperatures are presented for the systems consisting of Ni and Co layers with different configurations of the surfaces and interfaces. We have shown that the position in the system as well as the kind of neighbouring layers and their mutual interactions can determine the shape of magnetization profiles.
