Abstract
The LES–ODT model is implemented for the study of twin turbulent premixed flames in decaying isotropic turbulence. The approach is based on the coupling of large-eddy simulation (LES) for mass and momentum with a fixed 3D lattice of 1D fine-grained solutions based on the one-dimensional turbulence (ODT) model. The ODT solutions for momentum and reactive scalars are designed to capture subgrid scale physics that is not captured by LES. The LES–ODT formulation is capable of capturing important fine-scale processes, such as flame–flame interactions, which play an important role in flame shortening in turbulent premixed flames, and the role of preferential diffusion on curved flames’ structures.
