Easy-to-clean properties–Just a temporary appearance?

Organofunctional alkoxysilanes have a broad range of applications as adhesion promoters, crosslinkers, drying agents and surface modifiers. In this study a new Easy-to-clean formulation is described. It is a two component fluoroalkylsilane system which establishes a strongly hydrophobic and oleophobic surface layer on an inorganic substrate. Various tests show that the only 10 nm thick coatings have a good chemical and UV stability as well as abrasion resistance, thus provide long-term desired properties. The longevity of these Easy-to-clean coatings is highlighted by water contact angles above 100°.
