Abstract
Low-threshold single-mode laser action in a one-dimensional double periodic structure which includes cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) in the inorganic periodic structure as a defect has been observed. This laser action is based on the effect of double optical confinement in the inner helicoidal and the outer periodic structures. Theoretical calculations have been carried out to confirm the effect of effective double optical confinement in the double periodic structure.
