Abstract
The divergence angle and final charge of the constituent ions resulting from the dissociation of 6-MeV C2+ ions in a thin carbon foil were simultaneously measured. The relationship between the charge of the constituent ions at the foil exit and their internuclear distance at the instant of foil-induced dissociation was quantitatively demonstrated by the fitting analysis of the angle distributions for various combinations of charges using a Monte Carlo particle trajectory simulation.
