Abstract
The new magnetic quadrupole lens doublet has been made from a single piece of soft iron by spark erosion (“wire cutting”) process. The geometric coordinate systems of the lenses coincided to an accuracy of a few microns provided by a AGIE company's electrical-discharge machining systems (www.agie.com). One of the objectives of the experiments was to determine the accuracy of alignment of the axes in the lens doublet. For this purpose the technique of field reconstruction was used which also permitted parasitic sextuple and octuple lens fields to be determined.
