Abstract
The plasma arc is a kind of high current magneto-dynamics, and its figure mode is greatly influenced by Lorentz force duce to external magnetic field. However, despite the physical significance of plasma arc, quantitative evaluation on the magnetic influence and the stagnation coefficient to the anode is few. This paper examines the previous stagnation coefficient and the newly proposed modified stagnation coefficient of the plasma arc under different current regions. As a result, the newly proposed modified stagnation coefficient corresponds to the effective key resistance of the plasma. The previous stagnation coefficient decreases steeply with increase of current, so it is not convenient in actual use. The modified stagnation coefficient appears to be nearly a constant with change of current.
