Abstract
Effects of laser welding parameters on strength of welded joint were studied. Mechanism of loss of joint strength was analyzed. It was pointed out that an important factor affecting joint strength is the reaction between matrix and reinforced phase. On the basis of this, the concept of critical Si activity was proposed. In appropriate welding parameters and Si activity, welded joint with high quality for aluminum matrix composite SiCw/6061Al subjected to laser welding could be successfully obtained.
