Abstract
There is a requirement to minimise wear between surfaces under high loads to increase the service life and operational reliability of machine and tool elements. Wear accounts for more than 50% of forging and machine tool damage, decreasing productivity and increasing production costs. This paper will compare and contrast the performance attributes of DLC, WS2, T800 and multilayered DLC-TiB2 and TiAlN–TiB2 coatings as potential wear-resistant coatings for use in high load applications.
