Abstract
A modular system to control material flow during cold forging processes by additi nal hydraulic axes using different process variables as well as the appropriate process and equipment technology is presented in this contribution. A conventional backward cup extrusion process is used to assess the potential of the system to improve the process robustness as well as to extend the process limit by superposition of tensile stresses in the cup wall using advantageous tool kinematics. It has been shown, that due to the controlled movements of tool components both the robustness of forming processes processes are controllable leading to enhancement of forming limits.
