Abstract
This paper reports the results of complex investigations when turning the pearlitic-ferritic (PF) nodular iron (EN-GJS-500-7 grade) using L-CBN tools. The cutting process can be classified as a HPC due to relatively low machinability rate and high cutting speeds used. The experimental program covers measurements/calculations of fundamental process quantities and machined surface characteristics including componential cutting forces, specific cutting pressure, cutting temperature-average and maximum values as well as temperature distribution in the cutting zone, and tool wear progress visualized by appropriate wear curves and SEM images and obtainable surface roughness.
