A simple, efficient and ecofriendly procedure has been developed for the synthesis of 3-acetoacetylcoumarins from salicylaldehyde(s) and 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one using EPZ-10 as a catalyst in ethanol medium at reflux condition. The present methodology offers several advantages such as excellent yields, short reaction time and use of EPZ-10 as an eco-friendly catalyst.
