RésuméLes descriptions de la métallurgie du fer par les scientifiques du XVIIIe siècle sont exposées et discutées à travers la production de la fonte et l'affinage en fer ou acier. Cette partie III propose une étape de synthèse de l'ensemble de connaissances exposées dans les deux premières parties. Les outils actuels de thermochimie et de métallurgie microstructurale sont mis en œuvre pour aider à comprendre ce que signifiait l'affinage des différents type de fontes au bas foyer.

Iron stories. The descriptions of the 18th century. Part III : Proposals for the physicochemical interpretation of cast-iron conversion in the finery hearth. The descriptions of iron metallurgy by the 18th-century scientists are exposed and discussed through cast iron production and refining into wrought iron or steel. In part III, we propose a synthesis of the descriptions exposed in the first two parts. Modern knowledge from thermochemistry and physical metallurgy is used to help and understand the signification given to the conversion of cast iron in the refining hearth.
