Abstract

The oscillatory boundary layer at Reynolds number of 3500 over an oscillating wall is simulated by the method of large-eddy simulation (LES). The Reynolds number is chosen as Reδ=3500 in according with one of the well-known experimental cases (Test No. 10, Ref. [3]). The simulation presents the first- and second-order statistics of the oscillatory boundary layers, which are in good agreement with the experimental data. By investigating of the existence of the logarithmic layer in the velocity profiles, the fully developed turbulence state is identified; During half a cycle (90°-270°), the logarithmic layer starts to appear at about 110°, and lasts till 250° in the current simulation. The evolutions of the turbulent energy spectra are also illustrated.
