Abstract
⺠Accurate attendance estimates allow for informed resource management decisions. ⺠In this study we evaluate attendance estimates at beaches in southern California. ⺠We find that attendance counts are often too high, sometimes by a factor of 5. ⺠We also find that this bias is not random but correlated with a number of factors. ⺠We provide recommendations to identify and correct methodological biases.
