Abstract
► A concept of an active life-cycle decision support and crises management principle has been disclosed. ► The key is provision of ergonomic information on instantaneous ship vulnerability to flooding, which allows the crew to have notion at all times on ships capacity to cope with flooding scenarios. ► This allows making informed decisions on response with mitigating actions to the first sign of distress, but more importantly it promotes precautionary actions at any time to knowingly reduce vulnerability to the lowest levels possible. ► Risk reduction of 50% has been observed in real-life experiment.
