Abstract

The ADORE algorithm has been developed for optimizing the regional overpower protection (ROP) detector layout in CANDU® reactors. In the original development of this algorithm, the simulated annealing (SA) technique was used as its optimization engine. More recently, the genetic algorithm (GA) variant of the ADORE algorithm has been developed, called ADORE-GA. There are several user-defined parameters used during each optimization run using GA, one of them is the mutation rate introduced in each generation. Results from evaluating the performance of ADORE-GA against various mutation rates within the GA technique are presented in this paper.

► ADORE is an algorithm for CANDU ROP detector layout optimization. ► ADORE-GA is a genetic algorithm variant of the ADORE algorithm. ► It has been demonstrated that ADORE-GA is not too sensitive to the choice of mutation rate.
