Abstract
► The potential for neutronics design optimization is assessed for a large SFR core. ► Both beginning-of-life and equilibrium fuel cycle conditions are considered. ► The sodium void effect is decomposed via a neutron balance based methodology. ► The optimized core options adopt an appropriate sodium plenum design to reduce the void effect. ► The introduction of moderator pins is considered for enhancing the Doppler effect.
