Abstract

The aim of this study is to calculate HDD and CDD numbers for various base temperatures by using daily maximum and minimum temperature data for the long-term (21 years), measured at meteorological stations in 79 city centers of Turkey, and to draw maps of these numerical data. Five different base temperatures have been used for HDD and six for CDD in the calculations; the heating and cooling degree-day numbers found are given in the form of a table. The maximum and minimum HDD, for the base temperature of 17.5 °C, were respectively (HDD = 4581) in Ardahan and (HDD = 783) in Mersin; maximum CDD, for the basee temperature of 22 °C, was (970) in Şanlıurfa and the minimum CDD was (CDD = 61) in Ardahan.
