Abstract
•Maximum entropy production principle (MEPP) is considered.•Two main MEPP restrictions (locality and complexity) are discussed.•The typical misconceptions about MEPP are explained.
This paper reviews a number of recent results on the application of the maximum entropy production principle in chemical kinetics and non-equilibrium crystallization. Special attention is paid to the explanation of the principle's scope of applicability in chemical kinetics, which, based to the analysis of the recent papers, causes lack of understanding.
