Abstract

The statistical analysis of wind power ramp events can quantify the fluctuation of the utility scale wind power output. In this paper, a ratio based approach of wind power ramp events is introduced and an analytical model is described for the distribution of ramp events. The proposed model is useful to estimate the relationship between power ramp events and the variability of the wind power. The applicability of the model is discussed considering the wind power output data for the state of Karnataka, India. The monthly variation of the model parameter is investigated for different time-intervals. The proposed model is able to satisfactorily approximate the actual distribution of wind power ramp events and can be an effective tool in planning for wind power ramp control.
