Reservoir parameters and maceral composition of coal in different Carboniferous lithostratigraphical series of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland

► Some relationship between vitrinite group content and coal permeability is evident. ► Generally, vitrinite-rich coals have higher permeability than inertinite-rich ones. ► In the USCB vitrinite-rich coals occur in Cracow Sandstone and Mudstone Series. ► Vitrinite-rich coals should be a good target for CBM exploration and exploitation.
