The gas injection process is one of the most efficient enhanced recovery methods in the petroleum industry. A key parameter of a gas injection design is the Minimum Miscibility Pressure (MMP); the pressure at which the local displacement efficiency approaches 100%. Based on the concept of estimated solubility parameter calculated with the oil saturation pressure and reservoir temperature, properties readily available for any reservoir, a new methodology was developed to compute MMP for pure CO2 and good results are observed when compared with experimental data.
► A new method was developed to compute CO2 Minimum Miscibility Pressure. ► The oil temperature and its saturation pressure are the only independent variables. ► A new method was developed to calculate the oil solubility parameter. ► Good results are observed when compared with experimental data.
