Abstract
⺠Birefringent effect is measured in the lower half of the ice sheet at South Pole. ⺠Difference with Dome Fuji results suggests different local ice characteristics. ⺠Indications are seen of an asymmetry in absorption. ⺠Frequency-dependent echo returns are seen for several intermediate depths. ⺠ARA experiment is expected to provide additional measurements.
