Abstract

A model of the distribution of magnetic field on Martian equatorial plane is constructed in this paper. On the basis of observational data, this model proposes the hypothesis that the current sheets of the Martian ionosphere, magnetopause and magnetotail possess their respective electric currents. From the condition of the continuity of electric currents it is known that under these three backgrounds the currents have a certain relation. Namely, the total current on the Martian magnetopause is the sum of that of magnetosphere and that of the current sheets of magnetotail. Together with the magnetic field of solar wind, the magnetic fields produced by these currents constitute the distribution of magnetic fields on the Martian equatorial plane. It is found from computation that the results yielded by this model of magnetic field agree rather well with the existing results of satellite observations and the results given by other methods.
