Abstract
► Collision of a glass ball on a porous silica layer covering a basalt was studied. ► Sticking velocity was examined at the impact velocity from 0.1 to 80 m s−1. ► The glass ball stuck on the 85% porous layer at <2.4 m s−1. ► The sticking was never observed on the 80% and 70% porous layer at <2.4 m s−1. ► The sub-sticking region defined by ε < 0.1 appeared at 5-70 m s−1 for the 70% and 80% porous layer.
