Abstract
We detected a volcanic outburst in Io's northern hemisphere on 17 April 2006 with the OSIRIS imaging spectrometer at Keck, and confirmed it was still erupting on 2 June 2006. The eruption, which we name 060417A, was located in Tvashtar Paterae, â¼100 km southeast of the February 2000 eruption. The observed temperature was 1240±4K, over a surface area of 60±5km2, providing a total thermal output of 7.7±0.9Ã1012W.
