Abstract
This article reviews past results obtained through studies of the Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effects, describes the current state of measurements of the effects and their scientific use, and suggests the next steps in research in this field. The emphasis is on methods used to detect the effects and the limitations that the measurements place on the scientific conclusions that can be drawn.
