Abstract
Discussions of accidents are a more effective method of accident prevention than reading or listening to a lecture. The audience remember more and are more committed to the recommendations made as they have developed them. An example shows how discussion of a ’near miss’ as part of a training programme produced many extra recommendations that had not been included in the company's official report.
