Abstract
⺠Fractal dimension is explored as a method for characterizing complexity in dendrites. ⺠Minkowski dimension is calculated for directionally solidified Al dendrites in Al-Si alloys. ⺠Changes in solidification velocity and fluid flow did not significantly affect fractal value. ⺠Possible kinetic reasons for the unexpected stability of the value are discussed.
