Abstract
⺠Production of sapphire grows exponentially due to strong demand for LED substrates. ⺠Kyropoulos and Heat Exchange Methods became dominant for large scale operations. ⺠Future direction in sapphire growth is c-axis growth of large crystals to improve yield. ⺠New applications of sapphire include lasers, radiation detectors and optical data storage.
