Abstract
Highly efficient non-linear optical tetrathiourea cadmium tetrathiocyanato zincate (TCTZ) was synthesized and single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation method in an aqueous solution. Structure and crystalline nature of TCTZ were studied by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction studies. TCTZ crystal belongs to tetragonal structure with I4¯ space group. Chemical composition of the synthesized compound was estimated using an elemental analyzer. The coordination between ligands and metal ions in TCTZ was confirmed by FT-IR spectral studies. The cut-off wavelength and optical transparency of the grown single crystals were observed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Thermal and physio-chemical stability of the grown crystal were examined by TGA, DTA and DSC studies. Second-order non-linearity of the grown crystal was investigated by the Kurtz powder technique and the second harmonic generation efficiency of TCTZ was estimated to be greater than that of KDP and comparable to that of ZCTC. Dielectric property of the grown crystal was investigated to study the power dissipation of the material when subjected to alternating electric field.
