Abstract
The physics of interface between the hard- and soft-magnetic phases play an important role in determining the performance of exchange-coupled multilayers towards development of high-energy permanent magnets. Herein, we employed first principles calculations to understand the magnetic and electronic properties of exchange-coupled hard and soft magnetic superlattices of (YCo5|Co)[0001] and (YFe5|Co)[0001]. The calculated spin moment and exchange-coupling parameter for the (YFe5|Co)[0001] superlattice are found to be higher than that of the (YCo5|Co)[0001]. The results of present study suggest that the (YFe5|Co)[0001] superlattice can be used as exchange-coupled magnet with enhanced magnetic performance.
