Abstract
The magnetic behavior of dilute and concentrated alloys of Mn in liquid Bi up to 25 at% Mn was determined by susceptibility measurements. The alloys are found to follow a Curie–Weiss-like temperature dependence. The effective magnetic moments are grouped around 5.2 μB indicating an extensively split electronic structure of the transition metal states. The qualitative description is presented in terms of the Friedel–Anderson model of virtual bound states.
