Abstract

We report experimental studies on the temperature and magnetic field dependence of resistivity, dc magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity in Ti0.6V0.4 alloy. The temperature dependence of the normal state dc magnetic susceptibility in this Ti0.6V0.4 alloy shows T2 ln T behavior. The temperature dependence of resistivity follows a T2 behavior in the range 20–50 K whereas a term T3 ln T is needed in addition to the electronic and lattice terms to explain the temperature dependence of heat capacity in this region. These observations indicate the presence of spin-fluctuations in the system. Further experimental evidence for the spin fluctuations is obtained in the form of a negative value of T5 term in the temperature dependence of resistivity. We show that the spin fluctuations present in Ti0.6V0.4 alloy are itinerant in nature. The influence of spin-fluctuations on the superconducting properties of Ti0.6V0.4 is discussed in detail.
